Three Quality Products
Synthetic Natural Gas
Geologically too young, Hawaii has no underground source of natural gas. The Gas Company makes "synthetic" natural gas (SNG) at our plant in Campbell Industrial Park through an efficient and environmentally compatible process. Safety is a top priority at every stage of the process. This is achieved by having staff available to closely monitor the operations, twenty-four hours a day.
Stretching from Campbell Industrial Park to Hawaii Kai, more than 1,000 miles of underground pipeline carry synthetic natural gas to residential and business customers.
LP-Gas (Propane)
The Gas Company receives its LP-Gas supply directly from the local refineries and other sources. Business customers which do not have access to synthetic natural gas enjoy the same benefits of energy-efficient, clean-burning gas energy from LP-Gas. The Gas Company's trained technicians safely install LP-Gas tanks or cylinders on our customer's properties. In some areas, LP-Gas is transferred to holder stations and delivered to customers via underground pipelines. Neighbor islands customers receive a reliable supply of LP-Gas with regular shipments by barge from Oahu.
High Quality LP-Gas For Transportation
LP-Gas has uses beyond water heating, clothes drying and cooking. It is listed as an alternative transportation fuel under the Energy Policy Act of 1992 and has been used as a transportation fuel for more than 60 years throughout the world. The Gas Company has been converting gasoline-powered vehicles to run on LP-Gas for more than 20 years in the Islands, and its own fleet of trucks run on LP-Gas. More and more Hawaii companies and government agencies are switching to LP-Gas as tests show that these engines last up to three times longer than those of gasoline-powered vehicles, have lower maintenance costs and require fewer tune-ups.
