U.S. Department of Transportation Issues Immediate Recall of All Lite Cylinder Brand Propane Cylinders

Hawaii Gas customers can exchange cylinders at PropaneXchange locations

Honolulu, HI, May 30, 2013 - HAWAIʽIGAS  is issuing an immediate recall of all Lite Cylinder branded propane cylinders based on a recall order from The U.S. Department of Transportation. These cylinders have been used in HAWAIʽIGAS' cylinder exchange program operating at three locations on Oahu.

The recall order was mandated by the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration following an investigation of The Lite Cylinder Company, Inc. that revealed probable violations and unsafe conditions and practices at its manufacturing facility.

HAWAI῾IGAS has removed all cylinders manufactured by the Lite Cylinder company from its propane exchange locations and replaced them with cylinders manufactured by Ragasco. Ragasco has manufactured more than 8 million cylinders for use over the past 13 years and is certified to operate in more than 40 countries including the U.S.

Customers who purchased the cylinders on or before May 28, 2013 should return their cylinder immediately to any PropaneXchange location listed below.  Customers are reminded to make sure the valve is fully closed, the cylinder is in a well-ventilated area and remains in an upright position during transport.

We apologize to our customers for this inconvenience.  Customers will receive a new cylinder filled with propane at no charge and a choice of a coupon for 50% off their next cylinder exchange or a coupon for 50% off their purchase of an additional cylinder.  Or, customers may simply return their cylinder for a full refund.

Only HAWAIʽIGAS PropaneXchange customers on Oahu are affected by this recall. For questions please call HAWAIʽIGAS at (808) 535-5933.
