LP-Gas Tank - Location

On locations where utility gas service is not available, propane gas tanks or cylinders shall be installed on the customer’s premises. LP-Gas containers shall be installed aboveground, outside of buildings, and set upon a firm foundation. It shall be located with respect to the nearest container, important building, group of buildings, or line of adjoining property that may be built upon. Typical point of delivery for LP-Gas tank or cylinder installations is at the outlet of the tank regulator. Piping located after the tank regulator is typically considered the customer’s piping. The location of the LPG tanks in reference to buildings, property lines, building openings, and source of ignition are governed by the Uniform Fire Code and the National Fire Protection Agency Standard 58: LP-Gas Code Handbook.
