Venting – Exhaust Duct for Clothes Dryer

A moisture exhaust duct shall be installed in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and recommendations, with approved material.

A. A clothes dryer moisture exhaust duct shall not be connected into any vent connector, gas vent, or chimney.  (NFPA 54, 10.4.4.1).

B. Ducts for exhausting clothes dryers shall not be put together with sheet metal screw or other fastening means which extend into the duct and that would catch lint and reduce the efficiency of the exhaust system. (NFPA 54, 10.4.4.2).

C. Moisture exhaust ducts shall not terminate beneath the building or in the attic area.

D. Moisture exhaust ducts shall terminate on the outside of the building and shall be equipped with a back-draft damper

E. Domestic clothes dryers shall be exhausted to the outside if in an area that is habitable or containing other fuel-burning appliances, and the hood or termination should be a minimum of 12” above grade.
