Good News For Hawai'i Gas Utility Customers

In July of 2022, with approval from the Hawaiʻi Public Utilities Commission, ownership of Hawaiʻi Gas was successfully transferred from Macquarie Infrastructure Holdings, LLC to an affiliate of Argo Infrastructure Partners, LP. We are confident that the change in ownership will prove to be good for customers, good for Hawaiʻi Gas employees and good for our state. While the benefit to the state and our employees continues to be a long-term commitment, we are happy to announce that our utility customers will already realize one of benefits of the sale.

As a condition of the sale, HawaiʻiGas has committed to provide a $7 million rebate to its utility customers over a 9-year period. The $7 million will be provided to utility customers in the form of a monthly credit for each active account. We’re conveniently calling this the Hawaiʻi Gas Utility Customer Appreciation Credit!

Utility customers won’t have to do a thing to receive this credit. Utility Customer Appreciation Credits will be applied automatically to customer accounts and will be reflected in their Hawaiʻi Gas monthly billing statements so long as their account remains active.

The first credit will be distributed in December 2022 and will include credits and accrued interest that have accumulated since the sale was finalized in July 2022. That amount, totaling $394,380, will be distributed equally among all active Hawaiʻi Gas utility customer accounts on record. For example, if there are 32,000 utility customer accounts, each account will be credited $12.32.

For every month after December 2022, and continuing until June 2031, a credit totaling $64,815 will be distributed equally among all active Hawaiʻi Gas utility customer accounts on record. For example, if there are 32,000 utility customer accounts, each account will be credited $2.03 for that month.
