IRP Report and Action Plan

Our Journey to a Clean Energy Future

As part of its Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) process, on January 19, 2022, the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission (HPUC) asked Hawaiʻi Gas to address our long-term planning and strategy as a utility provider in the state. The final IRP Report and Action Plan was filed with the HPUC on April 6, 2023. You can find the Report and Action Plan, Integrated Model, and Resources Plans below:

The IRP Report and Action plan addresses the following:

  • How we intend to further State climate policies, including emissions reductions and renewable energy goals, with a focus on increasing the amount of low carbon to negative carbon fuels in our fuel mix.
  • How we intend to accelerate our plans to increase the proportion of renewable natural gas and hydrogen into our fuel mix. We currently blend up to 15% hydrogen in our fuel mix, which is the highest percentage of any gas utility in the nation.
  • How Hawaiʻi Gas' reliability and resilience fit as a critical part of the state's energy supply chain.
  • How we intend to maintain and ensure affordability for utility customers we serve.
